Concern Worldwide is an international humanitarian organization dedicated to elimination of extreme poverty. Currently we have opening for the following position under Technical Unit:
Advocacy Expert (Position-1 based in Dhaka):
The Advocacy Expert is responsible to support, develop and coordinate Concern’s advocacy work in order to address the root causes of extreme poverty in Bangladesh.
 
Major areas of responsibility:
  • Providing proactive and demand driven advice and support to staff and partners on advocacy practice; in a manner to empower and build capacity as well as securing advocacy gains
  • Ensuring that programme based advocacy staff and partners have a sound understanding of how to identify and tackle advocacy issues within their activities, through providing effective training, knowledge and resources
  • Engaging with Senior Management on major organisational advocacy issues, ensuring support for key strategic campaigns
  • Acting as Concern Worldwide Advocacy Focal person for the Bangladesh field and support in strengthening effective networks within key advocacy partners in Bangladesh
  • Supporting analysis of advocacy issues to identify the most effective tools and techniques and determine the most appropriate advocacy activities
  • Internal best practice and lesson learning related to advocacy are shared with Concern Worldwide, including Dublin Advocacy Unit, other country programmes as well as within Bangladesh. Feedback that is received is passed on to relevant Concern staff.
  • External best practice and lesson learning across Bangladesh and from other countries are received, reviewed and shared with relevant Concern staff in Bangladesh
  • Orienting partner NGOs and other stakeholders on the HAP standards, and in particular the CRM
  • As part of Concern’s emergency response, you may be called upon within 24 - 48 hours notice to serve the organization anywhere in Bangladesh, In the event of this occurring, you will be briefed on your role and responsibilities by the Head of the RRRU and by the HR
Requirements:
  • Masters Degree, preferably in Social Science;
  • At least 5 years progressively responsible professional work experience in a development organisation/NGO
  • At least 3 years working directly in advocacy with a proven ability to used advocacy techniques for pro-poor development;
  • Experience of policy and programme work, partner-led advocacy and capacity building, with proven research and analytical skills and negotiation skills with policy makers;
  • Experience of working together with the Government of Bangladesh and networks;
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills, and the ability to communicate complicated issues
  • Proven ability to work independently and a desire to strengthen advocacy capacity within Concern and it’s partners;
  • Knowledge of latest developments in advocacy practice.
